Happy Hearts

Happy Hearts Happy Hearts Group
Happy Hearts aims to improve the heart health of adults with learning disabilities within community settings. We do this by providing 10-week courses in places that groups already meet. The Happy Hearts courses provide education and fun activities that create positive attitudes towards taking responsibility for heart health with peer support. Specifically, activities consist of heart health education, looking at salt, sugar, fat, exercise, smoking, drinking, cook and eat sessions and gentle exercise within a range of settings.
The project enables participants to:
  • Try out fun and exciting activities in a social setting
  • Allows participants to experience exercise, cooking and eating together
  • Creates more positive attitudes towards health by giving participants information about the short and long term benefits of healthy lifestyles and its impact on wellbeing and heart health
  • Ensures information and sessions are designed specifically for the participants capacity of understanding
  • Increases confidence in participants ability to adopt a healthy lifestyle by providing information, practical activities and skills
