about US
Spring into Action is a community interest company based in Accrington in East Lancashire. We set up in 2012 and have a vision of an inclusive society where people with learning disabilities can fully participate.
Spring into Action is committed to creating a world where every individual, regardless of their abilities, feels valued and empowered to fully participate in life.
Our focus is on nurturing positive, healthy relationships, fostering equity, and developing essential life skills.
We are dedicated to providing opportunities for individuals to access the community, build lasting friendships, and enjoy services that are friendly, fun, and enriching.
We were set up by Lucy Hamlin, Rachael McHugh and Dawn Vickers in 2012 after they recognised there were limited opportunities for young people with learning disabilities to take a meaningful and active role in society.
The options on leaving school were college, then onto day centres. Lucy and Rachael worked for a youth group for young people up to age 25 with SEN and created opportunities for people to use their abilities, rather than be held back by any disability.

“We have chosen to sponsor your organisation as before we began work as a publication company we had a background in mental health nursing with a specialism in autism and learning disabilities. It therefore means a lot to us to support a company who are passionate about providing support to these individuals.”

sex & relationships
SRE Education for people with learning disabilities in the community, schools and providers.
People with lived experience of a learning disability, or autism have the right to have relationships. Often they do not have the knowledge or understanding of safe relationships. Some people may have never been in a relationship or have been sexually active and may need support and education to enjoy such experiences. Without this knowledge and education, this could lead to negative experiences and safeguarding issues.
People with a learning disability are four times more likely to have been sexually abused than non-disabled (Mencap, 2015).
